Babbel Stands With Ukraine

A letter from our CEO on Babbel’s initiatives to help refugees from Ukraine navigate the language-related challenges of being far from home.
Babbel Stands With Ukraine
  • Babbel is now making the existing Babbel product available to refugees from Ukraine free of charge
  • Courses in Ukrainian for German, Polish and English learning are being developed
  • These courses and other Babbel-sponsored initiatives are available on our website

Dear Babbel Community,

We are currently witnessing a terrible war and aggression brought upon Ukraine. As I write this from Berlin, we see tens of thousands of refugees arriving daily, with rockets detonating less than 1,000 kilometers away. These pictures take me back to 2015 — when Berlin was already a destination for thousands of refugees fleeing Syria. And just as we did then, Babbel will act.

As a language company, we believe in mutual understanding. We believe in the power of exchange across cultures. We believe in shared values and experiences that bring us closer together.

The Babbel team is working hard on several initiatives, which we hope will make a meaningful difference in the current situation.

Giving refugees from Ukraine free access to Babbel’s courses

We have opened up Babbel’s courses to refugees from Ukraine with existing knowledge of one of the languages we currently offer (e.g. English) to learn the languages relevant to them (e.g. German and Polish) for free. You can register here.

Creating content and resources for refugees

Our team has started creating specific content in Ukrainian on Babbel Magazine, outlining tips and insights for your start in Germany and Poland. We will continue to develop content for people hosting and welcoming refugees.

Launching courses in Ukrainian to learn German, Polish and English

We have launched courses in the Ukrainian language for Ukrainian native speakers to learn German, Polish or English. They are entirely free of charge for anyone who needs them.

These resources can be found on our dedicated website for refugees from Ukraine.

Here is a summary of Babbel’s actions in Ukrainian, in case you would like to share:

I wish you and your loved ones health and strength. Let’s please be kind to one another.

Yours sincerely,
Arne Schepker (CEO Babbel)
