Babbel Challenge Week 1: Find Your Community

This week, we kick off our Babbel New Year’s challenge by finding our language-learning community and making a commitment to our goals.
Babbel Challenge Week 1: Find Your Community

Kick off the year by joining the January Babbel Challenge! Every Monday in January, we’re publishing an article to help you establish a healthy learning habit. By the end of the month, you’ll be well on your way to reaching your language-learning goal.

This Week’s Challenge

Welcome to your first challenge! It’s a lot easier to stick with a resolution if you’ve made a public commitment to following through with it. With that in mind, your first challenge is to tell the world which language you’re learning and why you want to learn it. Post your declaration on social media, tell your friends and family, or pledge to your dog or cat, but don’t forget to include your motivation for learning. You can use the hashtag #BabbelChallenge to connect with other participants!

After you’ve made this public commitment, the next step is to find your language-learning community — either online or in person. When you’re striving to accomplish a goal, it’s important to surround yourself with others who can support and motivate you along the way.  The easiest way to connect with our team and other challenge participants is by using the #BabbelChallenge hashtag on social media, but you can also join the conversation in our Everything Language Quora space or join the Babbel Explorers Facebook group for passionate language learners.

Is talking to people on the internet not really your style? There are numerous ways to find a community and practice your new language in person. For example, you can join a language Meetup group or volunteer with an organization that uses language for social good.

The perks of completing this week’s challenge include:

  • Sticking with your resolution by making a public commitment
  • Creating or joining a supportive community with a shared goal
  • Connecting with our team here at Babbel (we’re doing the challenge, too!)
  • Reminding yourself of your motivation for learning
