• Founded in 2007 by Lorenz Heine, Markus Witte, Toine Diepstraten and Thomas Holl
• Located in Berlin, in the multicultural neighborhood of Kreuzberg
• Made up of more than 30 full-time and freelance employees
• Received funding in 2008 from Kizoo AG and VC-Fonds Berlin
• Additional funding of almost 1 million Euros from the EU's European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the State of Berlin in 2009

• Has registered over 700,000 users from more than 200 countries
• Offers vocabulary packages, tutorials, writing exercises and online courses
• Now available in seven languages: French, Spanish, Italian, German, Swedish, Brazilian Portuguese and English
• Localized for all seven learning languages, making a total of 42 language combinations
• Rich Internet Application (RIA) that allows for high interactivity without having to install anything
• Also available as Babbel Mobile, an App for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad
• Has a vocabulary trainer, Babbel Refresh, for download
