Babbel Launches Group Plan; Brings Shared, Affordable Language Learning to Friends, Couples, Roommates and Families

Digital language-learning pioneer Babbel today announced the launch of Babbel Group Plan, a new multi-user subscription that allows up to six people to share a single Babbel account with full access to all 14 of Babbel’s languages and more than 60,000 expert-crafted lessons, each maintaining their own fully independent learning path.

As Babbel's first shared subscription, Group Plan delivers what learners seek most: an affordable way to learn together with the built-in motivation that comes from shared commitment.

The Science of Learning Together

Research conducted by the Association for Talent Development has shown that accountability is key to success when learning a new skill, which Group Plan addresses head-on. Learners in their study had a 65% chance of completing their goal if they worked in a group; that likelihood increased to 95% if the group had specific accountability appointments. By allowing multiple users on the same Babbel plan, Babbel expects to increase learners' likelihood of success in their language journey while also fostering community around a shared interest.

A More Affordable Path to a Meaningful Hobby

The average American spends roughly $98 per month on their favorite hobby, yet 59% of Americans report difficulty affording their leisure activities, according to research from Self Financial. Activities framed as “non-essential self-growth”are often the first to go when budgets tighten.

Group Plan significantly lowers the cost for would-be learners. One month of group plan for up to six users is $30.95/month, effectively reducing the cost of a Babbel subscription to just over $5/month per person.

Group Plan also allows users access to a suite of new Babbel capabilities, including its conversation partner, Babbel Speak, an AI-powered, voice-led tool that allows users to practice speaking their language in a low-stress environment, more quickly closing the gap between knowing a language and utilizing it in the real world. In addition to shared learning, Babbel Group Plan users will have access to Babbel Speak for supplemental individual practice.

Group Plan is available for learners aged 14 and older across the US, UK, Europe and Latin America. Key features include:

  • Shared subscription for up to six learners: one plan administrator plus up to five members

  • Each learner maintains a fully independent Babbel account with complete access to all 14 languages and more than 60,000 lessons

  • The plan administrator can add or remove members at any time through a simple management screen

  • All languages are supported and all existing Babbel features are available, including lessons, podcasts, streaks, and Babbel’s AI conversation partner, Babbel Speak
